Alloa Community Enterprises opened its doors in 1984 and since then has been a leading charity and social enterprise in Clackmannanshire offering a range of services to support the local community and protect the environment. At its heart is its well-loved, pre-loved furniture and bric-a-brac store at The Hub in Alloa which collects, diverts and re-sells thousands of pieces of furniture a year, helping reduce carbon emissions and providing opportunities for people to purchase high-quality furniture at low prices. The charity also provides training, work and volunteering opportunities to many local people. The building also provides venues for other organisations, many whom are part of the third sector and work closely with ACE.
Over the last year, the charity launched its Remakery and this new service which aims to include a Reuse Café has now received new funding for the next three years until 2024 from the National Lottery for Communities. The Remakery will be offering work placements for young people with barriers and a range of workshops for a wide number of different groups that support the circular economy.
